DREAM
WEEKEND

July 26, 2008

Dream Weekend was started for the purpose of trying to show the youth of the communities what exactly it is that Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians do on a day to day basis and to make them and the parents aware of the Junior Firefighter program that several local fire companies have. Due to the shortage of volunteer firefighters which  make up the largest portion within the State of Pennsylvania, this program was also started to try and bring young boys and girls into the Fire Service after giving them a look at what it takes to be a Volunteer Firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician

This program is for children ages 10 to 14. They would arrive at the fire station at 0800 for check in and then would be divided into small teams with other participants. They are trained in family CPR, How to use a fire extinguisher, Teamwork and some of the basic fundamentals of being a volunteer. Saturday evening the children are treated to a night of bowling at Nellie Fox Bowling Alley and then they are taken to a local ice cream shop for their favorite snack. They then return to the fire station for a DVD movie on the big screen TV about firefighting and then it is off to bed.

Sunday begins with wake up at 0700 for a full course breakfast. Afterwards they get to have their picture taken with firefighting gear and their favorite piece of apparatus. From here the children are taken to the Franklin County 911 Center and then to the Franklin County Public Safety Training Center for tours. Upon completion of the tours the children return to the station to meet back up with their parents and proceed with the awards ceremony.

THIS PROGRAM IS 100% FREE  TO ALL THE PARTICIPANTS.

Any questions contact Deputy Chief Todd Sites @ 717-375-2212 ext 2207.
